Footprints — Privacy Policy

This policy explains what data the Footprints mobile app collects, how it is used, and what it is not. Footprints is a private journal for moments and memories. The app is designed to keep your personal content on your device.

What stays on your device

The following content is stored only in the app's local database on your phone and is never transmitted to us or any third party:

• Memories you create — titles, descriptions, dates
• Photos you attach to memories, including thumbnails and crop information
• Local backups (the app keeps a rolling set of recent backups on your device)
• App settings — language, timeline preferences, reminder times

If you uninstall the app, all of this content is removed with it.

What we collect, and only when you send a bug report

The only situation in which any data leaves your device is when you choose to submit a bug report from inside the app. When you do, the following is sent to our backend (provided by Supabase):

• Your bug description (optional) — the free-text comment you type into the report form. You can leave this blank.
• App diagnostics — the app version, your device's operating system and version, and your device language (for example, en-NO). This helps us reproduce the issue.
• An anonymous device identifier — a random UUID generated by the app when you first install it. It is not linked to your name, email address, phone number, or any other personal identifier. It lets us isolate your bug reports from other users' reports.

We do not collect: your memories, your photos, your location, your contacts, your name, your email address, your phone number, or any device identifier supplied by the operating system (such as the Android advertising ID).

Why we collect this

To investigate and fix the issue you have reported. That is the only purpose. The data is not used for advertising, marketing, profiling, or analytics about how you use the app.

Who has access

Bug report data is stored in our hosted database operated by Supabase (supabase.com), which acts as our data processor. Supabase does not use the data for its own purposes. The data is not shared with any other third party.

How long we keep it

Bug reports are retained for as long as needed to investigate and resolve the issue, and then for a reasonable period afterward as a reference for similar future issues. There is no automatic deletion schedule. You can request deletion at any time (see Contact below).

Security

All data sent from the app to our backend is transmitted over HTTPS. The Supabase database enforces row-level security so that bug reports submitted with your anonymous identifier are only visible to us, not to other app users.

Permissions the app requests

Footprints requests the minimum Android permissions needed to function:

• Internet access — only used to send bug reports when you submit one.
• Photo and media access — used by the system photo picker so you can attach photos to your memories. The pictures stay in the app's local storage; they are never sent off the device.
• Vibration — used for haptic feedback in the user interface.

Children

Footprints is a general-audience app and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

If we change what data the app collects or how it is used, this page will be updated and the effective date at the top will change. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes on Google Play.
